Arkansas is a Quapaw word | John Berrey | TEDxUniversityOfCentralArkansas

The Quapaw Tribe, forcibly removed indigenous people of Arkansas, has re-acquired a sacred burial ground in Central Arkansas. Theirs is an historic and hard-earned reputation for willingness to collaborate indiscriminately toward a shared goal of creating a better, healthier, and cleaner world.

Quapaw culture prioritizes community, focusing tribal revenue on economic and community development, including private health/dental/vision care and college or vocational tuition for all tribal members.

John L. Berrey, of Sperry, Okla., has served as Chairman of the Quapaw Tribe’s Business Committee, the primary governing body, since 2002, a period of tremendous growth and success for the 4,000-member tribe. He is part Quapaw, part Osage, and is a fourth-generation rancher on his family’s original Osage allotment north of Tulsa.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YLY_32vf4Q
